In Kayseri, mantı is closely tied to marriage rituals and can function as a marker of domestic competence. By crafting mantı from clay—empty and inedible—I remove their use-value and shift the dish into an object: a stand-in for housework, caregiving, and the body as a vessel. The project is built through repetition. Each dumpling is formed by hand, one by one, making labor—normally erased by consumption—remain visible and accumulate as mass. A circular band spells a line from the nursery rhyme as it rotates. Working across sculpture, text-based work, photography, and mixed media, she uses domestic, bodily, and craft-based materials to address motherhood, labor, gender, and cultural identity. Humor, ambiguity, and wordplay run through her practice, which often focuses on the friction between private life and public language. Raised in New York City, Ozuygur draws on her bicultural background to reflect on belonging, cultural codes, and the roles assigned to women and girls. Before returning to her studio practice, she worked in advertising as a copywriter, a background that continues to inform her attention to phrasing, slogans, and text. She received a BFA from New York University. Recent exhibitions include her solo exhibition Happy Brideday at Büyükdere35, Istanbul (2025), with catalog text by Beral Madra, and the AKBANK 43rd Contemporary Artist Award Exhibition (2025).
